TharkasDB: Hiya crector. What's up?
CharlesRector: Just read your msg on the SMR Forum &
msg'd you in game.
TharkasDB: Yep. They let me back in. I had to hunt
down Azool and pester him to check his damn e-mail.
CharlesRector: Did they restore your account?
CharlesRector: Have you looked at MPOGD?
TharkasDB: Nope. Whys that?
CharlesRector: JUst wondering. Its a directory of
several hundred online games. I'm anlso a staff
memeber there and as such wrote those news sotries
about the conditon of the original SM that prompted
some of those attacks on me that you oticed on the SMR
Forum.
TharkasDB: Yeah, I've visited it before, but I hadn't
read your article.
TharkasDB: Seems kinda hard to believe that you'd want
the destruction of SMR. You've done nothing to make me
think in that direction, so :-p to them.
CharlesRector: Well, most of them aren't there any
longer. News is archived there for up to one year,
then its more or less discarded. For instance, in
April 2000, the game was offline for 8 days and a
player got a hold of the phone number of the guy who
owned the game & got his wife she then checked it out
and brought up the firewall whilst talking to the
player. The game came back, but when I reported on
it, one of the admins said that it was a lie, but
never offered any expalnations as to why the game was
offline for so long.
TharkasDB: Interesting.
CharlesRector: Ever since then, I was accused of
trying to destroy one of my all-time favorite games.
There's also allaince rivalry & other stuff mixed in
here too.
TharkasDB: Seems like you've got the short end of the
stick.
TharkasDB: I know The Forsaken rivals Trex Mercs, who
else? HotA?
CharlesRector: Comes with the territory. Since then,
at least one player has admitted that he knew all
along that my reports were accurate, but he felt that
the purpose of MPOGD should be to promote games, not
report on their condition. HoA, when it was still
around. However, most of the TM/HF's existence in
SM/SMR was/is in the newbie games.
TharkasDB: What about bringing TM/HF to the futer vet
games?
CharlesRector: It was due to a short-lived arrangement
between the now bankrupt GameLoft & Shareplay
companies that caused newer & veteran players alike to
be brought together into the same game. When we reach
the point where we qualify for the Vet games &
especially whne we get to the point where we can only
play in the Vet games, then that will happen.
TharkasDB: Gotcha.
TharkasDB: Well, I'm with ya 'till the end. If that
matters any.
CharlesRector: Have you ever checked out the HF
website?
TharkasDB: Yeah.
CharlesRector: It matters a lot. Thank you. What did
you think of HF?
TharkasDB: I think that I maybe saw HF in Half-life
before while I played at my friend's house.
TharkasDB: Looked like an efficient gaming clan.
CharlesRector: Would you be interested in joining it?
TharkasDB: Maybe.
TharkasDB: I'm a solitary person, and clans don't
really appeal to me. No offense intended. :)
TharkasDB: CRAP
TharkasDB: MINES
CharlesRector: There's an official recruitment
procedure, one that I'm going to be announcing to the
allaince soon anyways. You go down to the HF BBG
Realm Forum at
http://www.clan-forsaken.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=9
and simply announce in a new thread that you're
interested in joining HF. Then during the next 2-3
weeks, you participate in forum discussions and then
the rest of the realm will vote on whether or not
you're accepted. Its mainly based on attitude &
behavior.
TharkasDB: Ah.
CharlesRector: Well, I'm a solitary person too, and
went for a long time without joining a clan. HF is
different in that it stresses adult behavior, not
juvenile type stuff as on the SMR Forum.
TharkasDB: Maybe. I'd like to see how TM does in SMR
first.
TharkasDB: Ack. The marines are calling my house
again. :(
CharlesRector: Ok. Unfortunately, there aren't any
alliance rankings based on exp. as there was in the
original SM, but if there were, we'd rank 10th in the
game.
TharkasDB: Yeah. TM is doing well, imho.
CharlesRector: Well, the game will get a lot rougher
during the last week July8-15. It always does. The
real trick is going to be able to bring the team into
the next newbie game and that way form the nucleus for
a possible No. #1 alliance.
TharkasDB: Yeah. Makes sense. Think we'll have an hq
planet by then?
CharlesRector: In the next game yes. In this game, we
still have a shot at it. If you mean by HQ planet, a
place where most of the allaince parks their ships,
those can become deathtraps. Its better to have
players spread out.
TharkasDB: Yeah. I was thinking when I read in the
forums about if any alliance got wind of us parking
all our stuff on one planet...well...it wouldn't be
pretty.
CharlesRector: Of course, even if you elect to never,
ever join HF, you're perfectly welcome to play SMR
with us for as long as you'd like.
TharkasDB: :) Thanks.
CharlesRector: no problem
TharkasDB: Any interesting plans for the alliance next
game?
CharlesRector: Not really. Just get in there,
explore, recruit do diplomacy and just try to do
better.
TharkasDB: I found a way to figure out the rankings.
TharkasDB: *of alliances.
TharkasDB: Trex is 11th.
TharkasDB: in exp
CharlesRector: It was 10th a couple days ago.
TharkasDB: Salvene Battle Fleet has us beaten by 30k
exp.
TharkasDB: And we're ahead of Legitimate Businessmen
is 20k behind us.
CharlesRector: LB is made up of veterans. It didn't
exist in SMR until a few days ago. With a few
excepions, such as Beowulf, Stryker, Unknown Soldier
and myself, most of TM in this game is made up of new
players.
TharkasDB: Well, in my defense, I was around since
Shareplay SM. :)
CharlesRector: What games/alliances were you in then?
I did think that yourname sounded a little bit
familiar.
TharkasDB: I used to run my own small mercenary crew.
TharkasDB: Tharkas' Mercenaries
TharkasDB: Then I was with the Crimson Scythes,
another merc company.
CharlesRector: in the NG's or the VG's?
TharkasDB: Last game I joined the Space Mercenaries
(noticing a pattern? lol) but went innactive since all
the bugs made the game kinda boring to me.
TharkasDB: NGs
CharlesRector: I rember them. Led by Hunter. Were in
the later SM NG's and in the GameLoft NG's.
CharlesRector: I meant Shareplay SM NG's.
TharkasDB: I was also in this huge alliance...but I
can't remember the name.
TharkasDB: It was a racial one.
TharkasDB: But yeah, I like being a mercenary. :)
CharlesRector: Were your allainces ever hired out?
Nobody's ever really hired out the TM.
TharkasDB: Nope. We were going to wait until we didn't
look like newbs first. But never got around to it.
TharkasDB: A tip if I may, just naming yourself a
mercenary won't have people hiring you. Ya need to
promote your services and advertise. :)
TharkasDB: This is just what I've noticed.
CharlesRector: Well, bounty hunting is something like
being a mercenary.
TharkasDB: Yeah.
TharkasDB: I was thinking more along the lines of
having a bunch of the exp. mercs take up fighter
ships, and be hired by alliances to bust some planets
or hunt down some alliance members or be body guards.
CharlesRector: We could try that out as an allaince in
the next game or so.
TharkasDB: And we both know that TM has gotten a ton
of publicity. :)
CharlesRector: Yes. Just like in the Fall of 2000
when Warlock first went after us.
TharkasDB: We could be a merc co. that is paid under
the table. Doesn't give out the job's details.
Secrative. Etc so people trust on us not to squeal and
junk.
TharkasDB: I regret to say I wasn't around then.
TharkasDB: I've heard quite a bit about it though.
CharlesRector: Only problem is that nobody ever
contacted us about a merc job in the first place. In
most online games, mercs is only a name, not a
reality.
TharkasDB: Yeah.
TharkasDB: But I'm up for changing that. ;-)
CharlesRector: Did you hear anything about Warlock &
the TM before the start of SMR NG #1?
TharkasDB: Not really. I've seen you guys around, but
I didn't read the web board.
CharlesRector: Are you interested in other games like
SMR?
TharkasDB: I've searched around a bit. I play Utopia,
TombMaster, Time Hunter, occassionaly vagabond's
quest, and thats it I think.
CharlesRector: At MPOGD, you'll find a lot more games
that you may like. One game, by TM member Hotaru that
you should like is TDZK at http://www.tdzk.net
TharkasDB: I'll check it out.
TharkasDB: Hmm...It looks like The Forsaken is up to
something. On the current players list, it looks like
all their top players are online right now.
CharlesRector: It sure does. I made the mistake of
being actively playing when a lot of them were
online...and paid for it.
TharkasDB: Breaking News
7/2/2002 5:07:24 AM 10 members of The Forsaken
attacked a level 9 planet in sector 2118! The members
from The Forsaken were attacking planet Unknown, owned
by Thureen. Thureen has yet to make a public response.
CharlesRector: Planet owned by Omega Factor with whom
we have a NAP.
TharkasDB: That PB could strenghtn the bond between OF
and TM if you'd like to do the diplomatcy.
CharlesRector: Well, they were our allies in previoous
games and treaties in SMR aren't ahrd coded,
unfortunately. I expect that in the games ahead, TM &
OF will be very close, just like in the past.
TharkasDB: If I might ask, what relations do we have
with the following alliances?
Tootsie Pops
The Dawnrazors
Angels of the Light
-=Shadow=-
*~Reign Of Chaos~*
Fear The Vampires
The Dark Knights
~Salvene Battle Fleet~
TharkasDB: All hostile? I wouldn't be surprised.
CharlesRector: Well, we haven't had any hstility from
most of them. No diplomacy yet, though. So far, its
been mainly the Tootsie Pops & -=Shadow=- who's been
bedeviling us. Mostly because we're in proximity to
them, I guess.
TharkasDB: Hmm. What direction are you trying to urge
this alliance into? A major super power? Helpers of
everyone? Kill'em all and let god sort them out?
CharlesRector: As in the past, a defensively oriented
allaince that doesn't pick fights with others, but
will stand & fight back if need be.
TharkasDB: How about if we get hired? :)
CharlesRector: Then we get hired and do the job. So
far though nobody has really approached us. We could
try taking up organized bounty hunting in the future
though.
TharkasDB: In my opinion (and suggestion) we should
make a name for ourselves first. I think the bounty
hunting would help a lot.
CharlesRector: Well, we have to build up a solid
nucleus first and have strong planet bases to boot.
Before starting TM up in NG #10, I had been in an
allaince called Law & Order that did the bounty thing
as a team with some effectiveness.
TharkasDB: I'm curious, do you know the trade formula?
If you know it, and don't want to share, I'd
understand.
CharlesRector: Its different than the old SM formula.
Its easier to reach perfect relations with your own
racial ports than ever before. You can reach perfect
relations simply by accepting the port's offer. On
buys, start with going for a 10% discount, then
reducing it as your relations go up. on sells, go for
no more than a 5% profit and scale the margin down as
relations go up.
TharkasDB: How much does relations shoot up if you
simply accept?
TharkasDB: I'm pretty sure it drops if you screw it up
once.
CharlesRector: At first, you get zero exp for simply
accepting, but if its your own racial paorts,
eventually you'll get some and it'll go up. I don't
know when you'll start getting exp, since I didn't go
to simply accepting it until I was close to 1000
relations anyways.
CharlesRector: In the old SM, simply accepting got you
1000 relations after 100 trades or so. However, the
relations seem to go up much faster in SMR than in SM.
TharkasDB: Starting at your own race is better since
you start wtih 500, is that what you meant?
CharlesRector: Yes and no. You generally do the
initial trading in your own racial galaxy, so you do
most trading there. Having said that, it takes the
cooperation of the racial councils to ever bbe able to
get to the point of a 50 relations basis with any
other race.
TharkasDB: I have more relations in the alask then my
own, WQ Human.
TharkasDB: I can't find a good one in WQ.
CharlesRector: ou mean a trade route?
TharkasDB: Yeah.
CharlesRector: that's the rare exception then. The
prots may all be drained....you did get into the game
late, did you not?
TharkasDB: Not drained. The lux routes that I find are
too close to each other. Yeah, somewhat late.
CharlesRector: Don't you have our Galaxy Map for WQH?
TharkasDB: Yeah.
CharlesRector: Have you tried looking at that?
TharkasDB: Usually with my NMV I could earn upwards of
150k, but in WQ its only 80k or so.
TharkasDB: And yeah, I looked for some routes in it. I
hope I didn't make you think I'm a total idiot.
*embaressed*
CharlesRector: No...why would I think that?
TharkasDB: I probably sound like a total newbie.
CharlesRector: No....there are distinct differences
between SMR & SM....
TharkasDB: Yeah, your right.
TharkasDB: Brb.
TharkasDB: Ok, back. Anyways, hows your SMR character
doing?
CharlesRector: Pretty well. Better than in some games,
worse than in others.
TharkasDB: Same here. I'm saving up the money to pay
back the loan I took out.
TharkasDB: It doesn't matter to me, I've done
everything, but is there any proffesion you'd like me
to do? Hunter...merchant...plantet builder...etc
CharlesRector: merchant for now...build up exp and
perhaps later turn to planet building.
TharkasDB: Sure.
TharkasDB: Welcome back.
CharlesRector: thanks
