Post I remember when...
Players used the names they were known by and didn't hide behind random names to hide their identity. Wth happened to people using their names? Now when you kill a person its like killing a newbie cause you don'tknow who the heck you just killed.
The days were better when you would stroll into #smr and brag about killing Blade or Cowboy or whoever (just using them as an example not that I ever did :p). Now its like yay I killed God's Little Kitten, so what, the name means nothing to me.

Well now the hunters wants to hide so no one know who they are. This way they can get more kills. Its a stat thing! But I really don't understand why since they conned Azool into hidding overall stats.
But all in all the players are not the same anymore, no one takes any pride in who they are. When someone tell me that they have gotten 200 or so kills. I say right prove it, show me your stats, guess you can't and for that matter prove who you say or think you are.
Edit: I forgot to add they still want to keep they game name safe but they just don't want to use it in the game. What a joke!!!!!!!!!!

to make both sides happy just add a feature that allows stats to be hidden or allows stats to show! there you go everyone is happy!

Most of us don't use different names to hide. We use different names to have a bit of fun. Themes are fun =)

I use different names for alliance themes because other wise the game gets stale like yesterday's bread.

I agree with the OP..... not knowing who people are takes some of the fun away from killing...
For example, just the other day I killed some Karabiner FU guy.... I was quite pleased..... However, i had no idea who i killed, didn't know who's face i could rub it in.... so.... I saw he had 5 previous deaths and assumed it was Kahless and made fun of him..... but i was really unsure...
Themes are all well and good... but like Ardbeg said... when you click on them to see stats there real name should come up... so you can find out who you killed or who killed you... it is a part of the game that seems to have been lost over these last few rounds...

I agree 100%. There is nothing wrong with going with a theme name. But there are some hunters that hide behind the so called theme name thing.
Like last year when hunter would beg to get their game name changed half way throgh the game so the newbie traders would not know who they are. Then when myself and others complained about this they did the next best thing and had the overall stats hidden.
Bring back overall stats so with a little research you can see who is who. Sound fair all the way around, they can have their theme name and others can still see who they are.

even with the stats hidden you can still very esealy find out who is who! it might take a couple min. but you can still find out!!!!
WHY NOT ADD A FEATURE IN WHERE YOU CAN CHOOSE TO HAVE YOUR STATS HIDDEN OR OPEN
that will then solve everyones problem wont it!! because for the people that want to show off there awesome i am the bomb stats they can..but then for the people like orca who want to hide then thats perfectly fine!!!!!

I think in order to reserve a name you should have to use it for 2 out of 3 games. that still gives you the option to do aliance themes now and again. Lets be real to. If you only use the name, Izzanods for example, 1 every 3 games, or even less, is it really your name? Someone else should be able to use that name. Using my friend izzy's name as a scapegoat example rather then a real one of course. Dont want to stir up any drama.

I agree Kard, a player should be required to use their name or lose it. But the player base does not see it that way.
So now I have two names that can not be used Freon22 and Spoof. I have used both of those name for more then two games. If I remember no one can use any name of a player that is still playing the game. Even if they don't use the name, unless they leave the game for a year or so. :lol: :lol:

I remembere when I use to play a Space Merchant like game on a BBS called ODS-BBS. Way back when we use to have to dial a seperate number for each computer system or network that we wanted to talk to. I beleive ODS got one of the first Internet doorways in my city. And only one user could use it at a time so people where limited to 15 minutes of Internet time.
edit: The Space Merchant like game was entirely ascii. your ship i believe was a @.

maybe my brain works worse then i would like and i hope it does but...
as i remember game stats were hidden cause traders and whinners asked for it not real hunters. stats were giving me (for example, i know many more who used it too) more infos then anything else in this game could. that was just great part of this game. so if u want to do me favor then give us real time updated stats again. i remember when i killed ard in that dc over ca shop... i was just checking his tusld, waited to see 2x 5turns used jumps, and then started csing like mad... he was is with me like 2 seconds later... put it back please...
another thing, why are u whining about names when u implemented in game that thing witch is allowing u to change name in middle of round? i dont understand...
and one more... i will use myself as example i guess... i use different names only cause i want to do that alliance theme thing. like kah said it is fun. i loved illusion theme for example, it was greatest fun ever. u all are just crying and whinning but different name is giving u no advantage really. u will be able to kill same guys with any name u choose, and if u cant kill someone u will not be able to kill him no matter what name u take.
like this game, i find out who is who after they miss me. then i ask my teammates who they are so that i can trash talk to them. so i escaped even if they had different name.. i dont see that helped to them. i just asked who was that, they said soul and then i understood why his try was so noobish. so, why are u whinning? like name makes difference...
and decide finily what u want. this is not first time u guys change something to get benefit from it, then whine to put it back cause u figured it is "hurting" u and not guys u wanted to hurt.
like this universe setup. i know it was ment to hurt armory (illusion). i want to ask u now if u enjoy it? who it hurts most?

Yes your brain works wrong.
The traders and whinners cryed about live exper updates so the 2 min delay was put in. The overall stats were hidden without any discussion, Azool just did it because? Who knows?
As far as this universe setup it had nothing to do with anyone alliance. It was to put everyone on the same playing field.

This may come as a shock to you Smor... but the universe does not revolve around you and your 5-man cru.........
Knowing who people are in-game is a key piece of information... tells you what kind of player they are.... are they hunters?... are they good fighters?.... are they miners?... are they traders?..... If you see someone you recognize gaining on the cpl, and you know what kind of player they are it is often times easy to figure out where they are going or what they are doing...
Well, right now this information isn't easily available to all..... yes, like you said you can ask YOUR alliance as they have nerded up a list of who most people are at the start of the game (obv i'm on the top).... but not all alliances have such lists, nor know how to create one.... thus an information disadvantage is created....
This is much like when MGU was made available to all..... most top vets already had SMC and could buy maps and import them to the software relativley 'easily'... however, not everybody did.... so, MGU fixed this information disadvantage...
Furthermore, the reason Azool removed them was for the most part, selfish reasons...... He wanted to play using his own player, but he knew that when he does people accuse him of cheating because he can access the database.... so, to not deal with these accusations he removed the stats and thus could play for the most part anonymously....

The universe was made to hurt Armory?
It's probably one of the easiest universes to hunt yet, that combined with the 1.5 TPH should be all a DC needs to hunt for 10 hours at a time.

I don't even understand what this thread is arguing????....
It seems everyone agrees that the HoF stats should be brought back?.... And that possibly your HoF name not be able to be changed?
I know Smor's post comes off as rather arrogant... but i think he was just confused, as i am, as to what we were arguing..... there really is no argument, that i have seen at least for HoF stats being hidden or HoF names being changed.....

Smor started calling people whiners, then proceeded to use his entire post to whine about his pet issues. When I see hypocrisy, I call people on it.
