Space Merchant Realms has started a new round!
The new round, Centrifugal Force, marks the 52nd regular round of Space Merchant Realms. The new game promises to be fast and furious with a speed of 1.5, a max alliance size of 25 with a 20 vet cap, and a turn cap of 600. The round began on Sunday, October 7th at 12:00 AM server time, and end on December 9th.
What makes this round intriguing is the map design. Remember when you could hide out in the safety of your racial galaxy with a nice big, comfy, 5 sector fed? Well, that luxury is no more! This map, designed by Jouldax, features just 1 racial galaxy with all 8 races competing for local dominance and only one fed sector for each race. Force expiration is extremely quick (4 hours max for a 50 stack of mines) for those of you worried about fed mining. Each race has its own partially walled-in sectors with race-specific ports, but you'll have to venture out into the middle and beyond if you want to make the big credits; port levels do increase the further away from home that you get, giving the risk takers a nice risk/reward profile.
Coding changes were minimal as we inch toward some potential end-of-year surprises! The minor adjustments include a display of turns gained/lost when swapping ships, additional information regarding bans and bond status for alliance leaders, and a nice improvement to the galaxy map to allow for easier centering.
This layout promises to enhance player interaction with the sector count nearly 35% smaller than a standard "medium" size map. Politics will play a crucial role in the early stages of the game towards developing strong routes. Alliances will be forged, battles will be fought, and victory will come to those courageous enough to grasp it.
