Space Merchant Realms Newsletter #41

Dear Player,

Another exciting round is set to start this weekend in SMR! This round will be a King of the Hill type round. What does that mean you ask? A King of the Hill round is where the largest planet type is set up in a cluster in the center of a neutral galaxy. On the outside of the neutral galaxy you will find smaller planet clusters with smaller planetary sizes. This can be used as a staging point before attacking the cluster of Planets in the center part of the neutral.

You can see here that there are 4 outside clusters of smaller planets with a center cluster of larger planets. Also note the racials will be paired together with each other, this will help promote peace among the races for trading and weaponry. The four racial galaxies will be connected with each other and with the main neutral galaxy.

As always, SMR welcomes any new ideas for maps. Map ideas and submissions can be sent to any SMR admin or on the SMR webboard in the map submission thread. If you cannot draw maps, no worries! Just describe your ideas to Jouldax or Bouncer, and they can make one up for you. As a reminder, we've recently introduced SMR's first ever mission! Stop by your local HQ to find out what the fuss is all about. We're continuing to improve the game for both new and old players alike.

We always need new coders!!! New features, long proposed, need to be added to game to add depth, balance and interesting new strategies. Would you like to see links to combat logs when your planet is under attack? Would you like to see notifications of new council votes? A confirmation on planet bonding? New alliance roles? All of these require coding! So ask your friends, your family, your peers, your fellow students... help us make SMR into the truly amazing game it can be.

See you in game!Thank you,

Space Merchant Realms Newsletter #40

Dear Player,

The council has held its final session and a new traditional game is set to begin this weekend! Several veterans returned to the fray to duke it out in our latest bridge battle, setting the stage for what looks like an action-packed round ahead. Come reunite with your old friends as they get caught up in the tangled webs of our next map - Arachnopohobia - featuring 4 racial pairings, 2 neutrals and 3 planet galaxies. Alliance sizes are set at 15 veterans and 3 newbies, so bring some buddies and prepare your own traps for flie(r)s.

As if that wasn't enough incentive, the game you know and love continues to evolve, with several significant graphical improvements and two new planet types slated to be rolled out shortly! We won't spoil the surprise, but come check out all the new colors and icons, including colorblind support options. Nijarin ships have also had their combat drones removed in favor of additional hardpoints, with all changes found here under the Game 77 tab: http://goo.gl/IAVoOu

Space Merchant Realms Newsletter #39

Dear Player,

With the holidays behind us and another round coming to a close, we're crossing a new bridge to a somewhat unique council concept game. The new round "Bridge Battle" features a draft-style map and two teams fighting it out for supremacy. The twist? Teams will be chosen by a council made up of a combination of admins and current players! Come test out last round's ship changes in what promises to be an intense clash (see changes for upcoming game in the following link: Google Docs)

As always, SMR welcomes any new ideas for maps. Map ideas and submissions can be sent to any SMR admin or on the SMR webboard in the map submission thread. If you cannot draw maps, no worries! Stop by your local HQ to find out what the fuss is all about. We're continuing to improve the game for both new and old players alike. However...

Space Merchant Realms Newsletter #38

Dear Player,

The holidays are upon us and the presents are coming early – it's time for a unique, new round! This next map, Racial Evolution (see "final" map below), promises to be quite unlike anything you've seen, with dynamic components and a living, breathing layout that will evolve as the game progresses. Trapped in a racial pairing to start, the walls of space begin to crumble before your eyes, opening new paths to your neighbors, who you never knew existed, and eventually to an entirely new galaxy. Initial changes will typically occur within 48 hours, but once the full map has been unveiled, expect some exciting twists and turns as the game heads towards a conclusion. Caps have been raised to 20 vets, 3 newbies to accommodate all brave enough to face the changing unknown...
As if that wasn't exciting enough, the admin team is bringing you ANOTHER present with a planned massive ship overhaul! Gone are the days of homogeneity (that means everything being relatively the same you Neanderthals!), in are the days of specialization and choice! Following up on our hunter changes from last round, this time the raider class gets the nod, with two raider hunters (WQ, Thevian) and more robust opping ships. Want to be the best hunter in the game? There's a ship for that! Want to be the best opper in the game? There's a ship for that! Want to be the best utility player? There's a ship for that too! Come check out the new proposed changes on tab Speculative-Game 72 at:http://goo.gl/A2lCEY

And finally, an admin table will be held Saturday, December 21st at 5PM server, 11AM Eastern. The admin table will be held in #smr. Be sure to bring all your questions and concerns.
As always, SMR welcomes any new ideas for maps. Map ideas and submissions can be sent to any SMR admin or on the SMR webboard in the map submission thread.
Space Merchant Realms also very much appreciates the hard work of our primary coder, Page, and two other players who have started working on SMR code to make it a better game, Ronsilver and Astax. New features, long proposed, now have a chance to be added to game to add depth, balance and interesting new strategies. However, we always need new coders!!! Ask your friends, your family, your peers, your fellow students... help us make SMR into the truly amazing game it can be.
See you in game! Thank you,
