Post Do you remember when?
In the game where The Hollow, Virus and Crusaders all played in the same round?
And when Mad Matt traded into the top rankings, died then got stuck in the biggest minefield in the game in newbs. Then sat for a WEEK in said minefield. After getting him cleared out he dies to forces LOL!
Or the port raid bug?
Or planet galaxies being right next to each other and daily stand offs with crusaders?
This is a round I was remembering today, please post your thoughts and rememberances.

i remember the first time as a member of shadow, when HOA needed some extra guns for an op my first time opping with the Big boys.
I remember the first time i killed orca.
Rogue constantly asking people for their addresses so he could send them Checks(but spelled with a Q) for how much they paid to play the game when they complained about stupid stuff.

I remember making a great jump bust on HoA, thinking there was only MM, Cat, Deke and Siege from PR in sector....

We jumped in to at least 30 HoA and Pony Riders in FU's and DC's completely killed the server for a few seconds, 5 minutes later, Aeon Flux sent me a message with a few humble words

Yup, was about 9 of us v like 30 of them... happy days
I also remember Heimdall with myself (Takes a bow) was the first person/alliance to kill a Speefy, we set the trap on Rex The Hex's DC and boom headshot, one Rex sent flying to HQ, also in the famous MY1 game

Cnh- came back for awhile a few years back. So did Skarlet I think. I still occasionally talk to Cnh- (not so much lately), Cnh- was the :D. Maybe I'll drop her a line and see if she won't come back again.

Speaking of which I miss Thorfin Skyrider. He was homey back in the day.
Also BlueMax is the man he trained me in Newbie Game 1 ;)
Oh and nazguul!!! I loved that game where he led. I think it was newbie game 3.

I remember the old SM newbie games and how active they were, and competetive they were. How everyone had multi accounts back then lol. I remember when Spock use to PLAY in SM newbie games every round, and always was in top 10 for exp, and was in a top aliance.
I remember when SMR was first being created, after SM callapse. During the Beta, I had a Fed Ult, that I died in 3 times, and never blew up. I never took a pod ride home. I posted how I always keep my Fed Ult after I die. That ship loved me and didnt want to let go lol.
I remember when TF ruled SMR with an iron fist for a bunch of rounds. We were all trying to take them out.
I remember the round Shadow won. HOA reformed, and TE, and all TE did was port raid for exp because the exp was insane. Deke was back that round and was leading the game in exp with a great route that was mostly in fed sectors. Me, Helix, and Orca set a trap for him, and waited over an hour scaning. We sprung the trap, only to kill his protege, Bender, the 2nd highest exp. I remember going on vacation for a week, and while I was away HOA busted the planet I was on. Our guys chased them off, and re-mined. But I was in open space above our planet for a week in my DC. When I got back, everyone was like "THER YOU ARE! LAND ALREADY!". I remember leading 12 guys to counter FI when they tried to bust our planet that was right next to the warp that lead to Alskant. The end of that round, we had the most kills, most exp, one massive ass minefield designed by Orca of course. Planets in TE territory that we hunted from and used to clear TE minefield daily.
And what could be one of the times I laughed the hardest, a few rounds later, where Ender, did one of his typical suicide on a port 50 times and quit the game tantrums. I was in chat and was like, why does ender always do that, Im glad I dont ever play with him. Then someone in TE says "Why is he doing this? Yesterday he posted on the aliance message board about how hes a true edger, and all these new players dont know what it means to be a true edge, with integrity, and dedicationr". Then another person from TE goes "SHUT UP! thats the aliance message board, its private!". It seems minor, but at the time, I was dieing. For some reason its something that always sticks in my mind and make me laugh.
I could go on forever with memories, and I didnt even play in the SM vet games, nor have I even play SMR Sinice the first HoF reset(except one game).

i remember when the game was fun!
i remember when we would scan the same sector for hours at a time, clicking F5..
I remember i was leader of crusaders college and we had 3 billion dollars, and died with 1 billion on my ship to a crusader guy.
I remember when me and benn tag teamed and killed orca.
I remember tradding to 498k, almost getting spooky (first time ever) and orca killed me.

The game is still fun, just lose some umph with loss of player base. The part I don't like is the insta gang bang 4+ people on with 1 person clearing. We need to even the game out a bit for single players or low active alliances.

There's been suggestions of things like an accuracy bonus/penalty when a larger group shoots a smaller group, or for all shooting to be 1v1 or capped at the size of the smaller team but none of them have come through to fruition (nobody has campaigned enough and got support - I'm fairly good at forgetting things if I don't get bugged about them although I do look through the in-game feature requests to get them added whenever I have the time to do so)

there are only 2 real solutions
1.) more players
2.) hard cap smaller alliances to 10 players, and balance planets around that number.

The problem is player base, not 4v1. Every, I mean EVERY game, 4 people will always beat 1 person. This is a team based game, and thats what makes it so great. So clearing mines solo, will get you chased off by groups of defenders, PBs or PRs isnt a solo thing. If you are solo, you are a trader, a hunter. Personaly, I dont want to play a game where 1 person stands a chance against 4 people. You can do things solo, that help your aliances war effort, but taking on 2+birds is not one of them. If you are solo clearing, and you get a sniff of a gangbang, then running SHOULD be your only option. The problem I supose you guys are speaking of, is the problem of people being afraid to do anything unless they outnumber the oponent by at least 2 birds, even if its something simple. Its easy to beat teams like that. Just show up with equal or larger numbers. You can clear their entire planet gal and bust their routes, because they wont try to take out enough birds to stop you, since they know they are outnumber and will lose all their ships. IMO, teams like that are easier to beat. Teams that will suicide on you with 6 ships, against your 10 ships, to stop a route from being raided, or minefield from being cleared, are harder to beat. Just my opinion

It's more the issue that newbies never get to take part in the alliance phase of the game. The vast amount of fun most of us get out of the game is when we're playing in alliance. Newbies never get to be part of that and newbie alliances (whilst good) don't really get them up to that level.

There is no reason for 1 person to clear anymore. The game has changed. So the fact that they get 'gang banged' is irrelevant.

Do you remember fearing the bank because you knew O and Estoy would be sitting on top of it :P
Do you remember Elvis Fett in game Hybrid who over 1 night killed the #3-4-5 players in the game (Hybrid)
Do you remember Phase 4? also players such as Dudeman, Gilgamesh, Roger Young, The Grim Reaper (the first one), Montana Mike and Catronia (first official SM couple!), Xian... Gir Draxon (who is still working with Speef at EA by the way and recently married)
Do you remember how Templar dominated trading for so long?
Do you remember if you playing Millenium or Proving ground or humm well the 6 monther? :
Do you remember when Odin lost over 300 Millions for sitting in middle of nowhere at night... TWICE???
Do you remember podding Everett for your first time? :D I actually do... Odin just Phad bought him a brand new IST and I went and blew it up!
Do you remember that 4.21 route Deke, Helix, Trigek and myself traded for good while... top 4 players had about 200k when #5 had about 40k ;)
Do you remember the first time you have been podded by me?? mwuahaha :D Izzanods surely remembers :D
So many good memories :) Kaos, HoA, The Edge, The Forsakens, and so many more...

-=Shadow=- was a lot of fun and even more work then ... school and work lol...
GameLoft.... was good and bad... bad that it killed the game good that the games were great ...
Newbie games... lol every vet and an account on it ( to help teach right)....
Back when planets has ship weapons ...
When you could have a FU with HHG/HHG/HHG/NUKE/NUKE/NUKE/NUKE..Even thought i went 7 HPL a lot;)
When one player could get level 5 weapons for everyone and put them on a planet .. Or drop weapons on a planet then fed..very fast rearm...
When Naps were in and we had 45 or more on cpl at all times... Jumping people who pbed you at uno with 4 diff alliances helping:) never seen us till it was to late:)
When HOA tryed to jump us with 10 high exp dc's and we had 12 BC's mining and we killed them..man they were mad.
when you had naps with other alliances who had naps with other alliances and you had to see if you could get past the mines..
Staying up till 3 am when i was in JH typing so soft as to not get cought so i could pb..
MANATWAR my 3ed hand ...and good friend of the early games..
Going to university on a t4...was fast back in the day and running all around dragon in his dc:) with acc weapons on my eos could attack and uno and get back before he made it 5 sectors;)

I remember Canff and I having some fun battles in SM. I started playing SM when Hybrid started back in '99 and was lucky to make friends with Simon, Sailormoon and Ozy who really helped teach me how to play and got me into Yellow Moon my first "big alliance". During NST i was in a cloaked trader and Montana Mike tried to kill me every day with no success lol after that game MM told asked me to join HoA and i stayed with them till the end of SM. I had so many good times and met so many people that I can't even remember them all :D

I remember Warlock and TF and most of the HOA people, and having a spy in HOA but never telling them who :) I remember eventually joining HOA. I led an alliance. I can't believe anyone joined. My dog died busting Catonia's planet in whatever game that was when TF and Rag teamed up for a bit. I haven't played in like forever, but I keep coming back every year to check the damn message board...

Funny coincidence this topic. I was just remebering when Elvis Fett got me into playing SM back in '99.
On a whim I searched for "Space Merchant" in my favorite search engine, Dogpile.
The next thing I know I'm creating a login and signing up for the Intimidator game. :)
My favorite memory is when Elvis Fett came out of 'retirement' to form an alliance to pod Speef in his SMS.
Speef wasn't online at the time and was predictably upset when he logged in in the morning.
He hunted us all down and podded us in turn that same day. I still get a chuckle when I remember how mad he got. :lol:

Wow this thread brings back a lot of good old memories....a little scary that i really do remember a lot of the events and people posted in here. Kind of makes me want to give the game another go...*goes back into hiding* maybe i'll pop into chat one of these days...

Do you remember when I used to play? :D Man, it was definately interesting reading all the posts and having SMR flashbacks! F5ing the sector just waiting... playing on a 56k modem and watching those with cable just run laps around me. Upgrading to a cable modem just to have the germans run laps around me lol. Not sure how you still do it... but do you remember using mIRC to do a PB? It is amazing half the ops I ran or was apart of even worked with that type of communication.
I've thought about coming back a few times here and there... just can never muster up the want enough. Hope everyone is doing well!

I remember waking up at 6 AM to play before school, playing during lunch at school, racing home after school to play until my parents sent me to bed, sneaking out of bed to play..

I remember first playing with Izzy and Ender back in Imperial Dreams back when -=Shadow=- was around.
I remember me and gheng kicking everyone off of lotus' planet and podding them one by one.
Adult Swim with Cuda and Siege was by far the most fun i've had in the game.
SMR would have been 10x cooler for me if I have been on cable along with everyone else.

I haven't played that much either, just been back for few days. Don't know yet how active I end up to be, depends quite a lot of this real life thing I seem to have, at least occasionally. And ofcourse about the game itself and the people playing it, as usual.
Haven't really found myself another game after TDZK went down. Tried couple, latest beeing Astro Empires, but there was something in it that didn't really make it my game. One thing might be that fact that even though it was advertised to be a free game, by paying a volunteer membership you would get advantages over those players that do not pay. In my books that is not a free game.
Anyway, hopefully I find myself that next game that will keep me hooked for the next few years. ;)

An alliance that shall remain nameless made an attack into the enemies galaxy and found them selves locked in by the whole enemy alliance sitting on the warp. It was a standoff that last a week at least.

heh I am Lord Dedric, I just recently returned *I'm not telling you who I am in game though* and I remember all the fun in yellowmoon, I joined once Nighthawk and Freebird stopped playing.
Here are a few of my old SM Memories.
I built a hidden 14x trade route on what looked like a 2x3x3x1x route will Dixie ran across it on a freak accident dodging mines, then HOA leveled it and my planet next to it, ya they got me sleeping on it too :P
I remember setting up the "1st" HOA PR jump kill that killed like 6 people. We were going to do it again but had too few turns.
I can remember fett begin the 1st person to pod me, and after talking to him I was rather unappreciative tword him and his mates. 3 Games later I actually podded him. So the score is roughly fett 25 pods to my 1. I however take more pride in my 1 than his 25 as I killed him in a thief as he was returning to uno after killing someone else in a DC and forgot to recloak himself. I was so happy I even sent him a message that directed him to a site that played taps for him :P
I also remember when race ships came out, and I went crentoi every time for that leviathan, man I used to love that ship. Now getting funds is way way too easy, no challenge and everyone can get into a big ship rather fast. If I were to say to change anything I'd say do an overhaul on the income players and alliances can get. Make 10 mil seem to be a lot of money, reduce the multiplier by about 1/10 of what it is now.
I can remember the 1st time I got into an expensive ship and how proud I was for earning it. (PSF)
I actually only left once the mine wars hit, I played though 1 full game and started another but mineing sectors for me was simply no fun.

Was MM still leading HoA at that time? I remember having huge respect for those guys until I grew capable enough to start picking them off at uno during fleet actions. Then I was bombarded with curses that were so creative they'll get through the spam filter and most of them turned out to be bad losers.

I remember busting the inside port of Jesters alliance built route with Adult Swim and Ammon disconnecting on the kill shot and getting 375 mil from the port, sitting in the middle of Nintendo Powers planet gal in a decloaked DC top 10 in xp ( at a time when that meant something ) with 375 mil on board and us guarding him for 4 hours until it was 5 AM est and eventually we needed to get it over with, booting and killing him. Me and Kah taking a week long ban for it (me for making the decision as leader of the alliance, and Kah for getting the kill). Was a crazy long thread about it that was probably really entertaining, but can't seem to find it on the webboard.
Later that same game I remember busting Nintendo Powers bonder and getting 22 cream and sitting over the rock for almost 24 hours waiting for the 1 billion $$ bond to mature, winning one fleet fight against 13-14 more NP ships but almost everyone dying on both sides just minutes before bond maturity, I think by the end of that 24 hour escapade I counted that there was 85 pods given out, ~65 belonging to NP and their hard work getting their 1 billion back.
I remember in My1 being in HoA and getting our one rock busted by Ragnarok/Heimdall and only having 6-7 online against their 13-15 ships, although we had 18+ ships on rock at that time you weren't launched from rock when busted you defended and shot back from the planet, so you were at a huge disadvantage not being able to trigger and them being able to UNO like regular planet shots..But coming up with the idea that we boot the owner of the planet so that when it was destroyed we were all launched from rock (kindof a loophole) catching Rag and Heimdall totally off guard and killing most of them ( and rightfully so, I think this was the first time this maneuver had ever been used in a real op situation )..
I remember the game that Imhotep lead Armada with a stacked line up of vets and having an epic fleet fight in some gal with tons of mines and basically getting cornered in ( don't know what alliance we were against ), was one of the best battles of wits and quickest decisions I have seen in SM/SMR history yet with whole fleets of 10+ people moving so quickly and strategically you'd think it was a just 2 hunters duking it out. Eventually we were pinned in a gal and picked off..wish I could remember who that was against so I could give them proper kudos.

Whoa .... I can't believe SMR is still going on. Great job, guys, keeping the SM legacy still alive :clap: Hard to believe how long it has been, what? 13, 14 years since the original SM began?
Good thing getting some news from so many old timers: Estoy, Nazgul, Cowboy, GD, Siege, SFPerkele, Imohtep, Pickles, etc., and so many great memories: the 1 shield trick, TU vs SM, EE vs The rebellion, the 1rst lvl 70 PB, the mine wars, Speef's death, sector 1501, the 500k club, Zmaniac solo alliance, the water pistol, etc., etc., etc., even Crector´s pathetically ridiculous "umbiased reports" are now a funny memento ... and of course the unique and irrepetible flame wars!!! :mrgreen:
Sad to know that Red Dwarf died. Old traders never die, they just go back to FedHQ to get a brand new SW :angel:
BTW... I always wondered if Hyperion got better; I hope, so.

Lots if old names logged in to see who might be about, shame no one really plays anymore but cool to see people logging in. I remember the early days when there was still newbie galaxys and I had page teaching me to trade, and penny chasing me all over to pod me so that he could get to the vet galaxy! I remember not long after the newbie galaxies were disbanded earning myself my first psf and trading for hours with max turns and earning something like 20 mil for myself and getting podded at the bank coz my dial up crashed, I think it was estoy who got me and very kindly gave me back 10 mil and offered a spot in an alliance which I remember thinking wow I've be asked to join my first alliance. Use to love playing sm back in the days when you had 3 or 4 full alliances battling it out and few other smaller ones about, plus reading the galactic post 6 it 7 times a week while waiting for turns. And I remember sitting 2 sectors outside of fed with no turns and chatting to lotus in irc while he kept an eye out for me to shepherd me home to fed. I used to love this game just wish I had the time for it again.... :(
