Gift giving is beginning earlier than usual this year as SMR plans to roll out several new ideas! First, we will have THREE games running simultaneously. A complicated formula was hashed out by your devoted Admin Team to determine the optimal number of games based on a complex average of the number of celebrated days in the holiday period (don't ask us for the formula or we'll have to pod you!).
Round 56: Triforce (Regular)
The regular round features a map designed by Jouldax. Who will (hy)rule the galaxy? Will you be able to claim the stars by (tri)force? How long will these terrible jokes drag on (get it? Drag on? Dragon?...ok, that's enough).

Game Opens: 12/10/2012 12:00:00 AM Server time (GMT/UTC +1)
1405 total sectors
Speed is 1.5, Maximum Turn Limit of 600.
All racials in one large, 28x28 galaxy, ports race decided by proximity to closest Racial HQ.
NPCs will be enabled for this round
Mine timers are 5 minutes/mine in the central galaxy, 90 minutes/mine in the larger outer galaxies, and 2.5 hours/mine in the planet galaxies.
Warps from the inner galaxy to the outer galaxies will all contain locations so they cannot be mined.

Round 59: Solitary Strife (Free for All)
A new game style, Free-For-All (FFA), will run simultaneously with the regular round. This no-holds-barred cage match pits you and you alone in a semi against the rest of the world. Verbal alliances will be forged and broken. Who will be the ultimate survivor? Jester designed the map for the FFA round.
Other features of the FFA style game include:
Game Opens: 12/9/2012 12:00:00 AM Server time (GMT/UTC +1)
1441 total sectors;
Speed will be 3.0 with an 800 turn cap;
No planets;
UG, all weapons available in the middle neutral. Also playing with the idea of a Fed HQ;
Racials will also have weapons available in addition to their racial weapon shops;
Hall of Fame stats WILL BE INCLUDED in this game;
Racials will have somewhat customized ports so one race doesn't have really good routes and the other has all 3x's;
Mines will not last longer than 3 hours anywhere;
CA and Uno will not be together;
Only two CA and two banks in the big neutral;
One bank per racial.
Round 60: New Players/Training Round (Newbie)
We will also run a new player game designed to help new players or rusty returning vets practice their skills. The map will be redesigned from last round to allow more low level ports (for port raid practice) and will resemble the regular round more closely.
Bouncer and another veteran player will be available for help as needed.

As we announced last time, work has begun on a special revitalization project for Space Merchant Realms. Members of the community as well as the Admin Team have been working hard on SMRv2, and we are excited to give you a preview of some of the new things to come. Please keep in mind that these examples are still in the development stages and will continue to evolve.

User Interface

Player/Trader Profile
We have designed a new player/trader profile with the idea of providing a more unique SMR experience. This will include profile pictures for both user and trader (for each round) as well as an alliance history. Also as part of the new Profile we are planning to introduce personal Achievements. If you like what you see, then volunteer to make it happen soon! Space Merchant Realms needs new coders and graphic designers. The more members of the community that participate the sooner we can launch Space Merchant Realms v2!
