SMR Newsletter #30

Dear Player,

Space Merchant Realms is starting a new round!

The new round, Interstellar Emporium, marks the 51st regular round of Space Merchant Realms. Interstellar Emporium features a blazing speed of 1.5, a maximum alliance size of 25 (20 vets and 5 beloved newbies) and a turn cap of 600. We will be using Seldum's christmas tree colored map design, pictured below (kind of looks like a sideways bottle of sprite, no?):

The round will begin on Saturday, August 11, at 6:00 PM and will end October 6th at 6:00PM (all times in server time).

Interstellar Emporium will also reveal several new and exciting game changes! The most important change involves (drumroll, please) the combat code. Designed to create a more active combat experience, triggering under the new system will result in only two ships firing at once, with the 2nd ship being randomly selected. Will you be able to sneak up on a large fleet and take someone out before you're vaporized? Come test your skill and find out!

Another change involves the DCS (Drone Communications Scrambler) ships. All DCS ships will now have 50% mine damage resistance. Who doesn't like 50% more mine resistance!

Port changes have also been implemented. Port downgrades have been adjusted to link more closely with actual damage done (don't you hate having a 4k shot with no level reduction?). Port upgrades will now increase per 10* goods traded. Though deliberate overpaying will still be capped at 1000, the full price of higher tier goods will still have the entire amount going into the upgrade.

Additions have been made to Racial Politics to give them more visual appeal as well as information on how the politics systems works. Join your council today!

We are also happy to annouce that the Offical SMR Wiki is now online and available! (http://wiki.smrealms.de)

We now have a map submission and discussion forum so players can submit map designs and discuss improvements at any time. If you have map ideas for regular, draft and/or speed rounds, submit them there. You can use any spreadsheet or drawing software. The above map, for example, was created using photoshop. Excel is also an excellent tool for map creation, and for the artistically challenged, use Paint!

As we annouced last time Space Merchant Realms is now Open Source! SMR has been released under the AGPLv3 license. It is available via GitHub (https://github.com/smrealms/smr). Approved features have already been listed in the Coders Corner forum on the SMR webboards as well as under the Issues section in GitHub. Any questions concerning open source and related items should be directed to Page. We look forward to some new coders helping to improve SMR! Ingame credits will be provided to those who help SMR grow! See Page or RCK for details.

See you in game!

Thank you,

The SMR Administration Team
